Most of the remote experience comes down to whether quality settings match the network. Here are recommended setups for common situations.
Quality presets
Three presets are typical: Adaptive lets the client decide, High definition suits images and documents, Smooth suits input-heavy work and weak networks.

Resolution and scaling
Change the host resolution temporarily to match your window, or keep it and scale the view. On HiDPI screens prefer high quality with moderate scaling.

Cutting bandwidth
When bandwidth is tight, disabling wallpaper, animation and font smoothing helps a lot; lowering colour depth and frame rate helps further.
